Out of the two paints that were giving I really liked this because the meaning stands out. Although it might be hard to understand right away, you kinda have to look past it and start with the background being black. The painter is an African American that lived in the U. S. A. She wasn't giving right because of the color of her skin. To me I think this painting is suppose to be her, but if she was white. Yes, shes African but if she was white she would stand out to people and I think that's why she painted herself like this. The strips in the flag looks to be bars in a jail, with the start being protection. Blacks weren't given rights because of the segregation back then with blacks and whites. You can tell she's not happy because of what's going on. All we could say now is that we should be thankful that things changed over the time. If America says "we're a free country" we should live by it with all the citizens having their rights.
